After much speculation the UFC have finally confirmed Khabib Nurmagomedov’s return to the octagon!
On Saturday 7th September Khabib will put his UFC Lightweight title on the line against Interim Champion Dustin Poirier. The bout will take place at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi!
Khabib had previously stated that he’d like to return anywhere between September and December of this year. Rumours especially heated up when news of Khabib’s suspension being lifted broke.
This will be Khabib’s first fight in 11 months. In his last fight, Khabib famously dismantled Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. After the fight, Khabib jumped out of the cage to engage in a brawl with McGregor’s corner.
Khabib’s post fight antics earned him a suspension and is the reason why he has been inactive for 11 months.
His September opponent Dustin Poirier has been more active than the Russian, having competed in April at UFC 236. It was at this event where Dustin earned the UFC Interim Lightweight belt. Poirier beat current Featherweight Champion Max Holloway.
