UFC on ESPN+ 3 takes place in “the City of a Hundred Spires” known as Prague in the Czech Republic. This beautiful city hosts it’s first UFC event ever and will showcase a huge main event with title implications. Polish fighter Jan Blachowicz will take on the Brazilian Thiago Santos.
Between these two big men, which one of them has the traits to secure a title shot against Jon Jones? Could we have a potential upset on our hands? Find out more below!
Jan is a calculated light heavyweight fighter. Nine of his 23 victories have gone to a decision. He can not only out work his opponents but out smart them as well.
Jan’s command of range is excellent and he is capable of winning the fight wherever it goes. In the past, he has been known to outwork and tire his opponents. A game plan like this could be the perfect way for Blachowicz to beat Thiago on Saturday night. Jan will be making a short trip from Poland and with this in mind, he will undoubtedly be the fresher fighter.
Thiago Santos is becoming one of the more recognisable fan favourites. This is a result of his high risk, high reward style. An example of this can be seen in his last fight against Jimi Manuwa. He threw out his game plan, bit down on his mouth piece and started to throw down.
The beginning of the fight is where Santos is most dangerous. He is like a sledgehammer that crushes his opponents into a pulp. Thiago was formerly a middleweight fighter. But, he was huge for the division and often struggled to make the 185 pound weight limit. Many criticise his gas tank, but cutting all that weight can seriously throttle a fighter’s cardio.
Santos holds black belts in both Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He currently trains at American Top Team and has quietly been working on his wrestling ability.
We overlooked Thiago in his fight against Jimi. Something which we learned at FiveRoundWar was that Thaigo has heart, to the point where he must and will find a way to win. Blackowicz will be wary of Santos’s wrecking ball like style.
This is quite an even match up, with Thaigo coming in as a slight favourite. Jan could very well outwork and tire Thiago to victory. However, we believe that Santos will find a way to win early as he will be able keep the fight standing.
Prediction: Santos by TKO.
