Holly Holm vs Megan Anderson confirmed for UFC 225

Holly Holm

Holly Holm will remain at featherweight for her next fight, despite twice dropping title fights in the division, the UFC confirmed today.

The former women’s bantamweight and multiple-division boxing champion will take on Megan Anderson at UFC 225 on June 9, with the Australian making her promotional debut.

The contest will be the first non-title women’s featherweight fight in UFC history, with Holm (11-4) aiming to rebound from her decision loss to Cris Cyborg back in December at UFC 219.

For her part, Anderson (8-2) is a former Invicta featherweight champion, winning her last four bouts by TKO due to strikes before taking time away from the sport due to personal issues in January 2017.

The contest promises to be an enthralling encounter, with the winner likely to be thrust straight into the title picture. Anderson called out Cyborg via social media following the 20-1 (1) champion’s dominant victory over challenger Yana Kunitskaya at UFC 222 last month, while Holm, at 36, has indicated she feels she has one more title run left in her.

The UFC confirmed the tilt via their official Facebook page earlier today, with tickets for the United Center, Chicago event set to go on sale tomorrow (April 13).

Also confirmed for the card is the return of hometown hero CM Punk, with the former WWE star set to take on Mike Jackson – both fighters holding a 0-1 MMA record. Meanwhile, Robert Whittaker will face off against Joel Romero for the UFC middleweight championship, with Rafael dos Anjos vs. Colby Covington slated to battle for the interim welterweight title.
